Secondary schools across Lancashire and the Lake District are being asked to ‘Reach for the Skies’ to celebrate Blackpool International Airport’s centenary year.

Blackpool International has pledged a £5000 prize to the school which comes up with the winning design for a commemorative plaque based on the theme, ‘100 Years of Flying from Blackpool’.

The plaque will be unveiled at a special ceremony at the airport on 18th October 2009 – exactly 100 years since flying first began in Blackpool and the resort hosted Britain’s first official air show attracting more than 200,000 spectators.
